Mantoux Reaction after B.C.G. Vaccination and Naturally Infected Tuberculosis

Abstract
The author performed tuberculin test with P.P.D. 1 TU(0.00002mg) on 522 cases who received dried from B.C.G. (Merieux institute) within 3 days of life in the nursery room of Kyung Hee University Hospital admitted from the 1st of August, 1974 to the 31st of January, 1976.
The results were compared with 24 cases to whom B.C.G. was vaccinated at the age of 9^-12 months, and 33 cases of tuberculous meningitis patients, and 46 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis.
(1) Among the cases vaccinated within 3 days of life, the positive rates were significantly higher (P value, 0.005>) in the group of the tuberculin tests ¢¥performed between 3^-5 months after vaccination than examined between 2-3 months.
However the total positive rates were significantly higher in the group of B.C.G. inoculated between 9^12 months of age compare to the group of vaccination within 3 days¢¥ of life (P value, 0.005).
(2) The cases of tuberculous meningitis showed the positive rates of 45.5%.
(3) The mean sizes of induration of positive reaction were 8.3 ¡¾2.62mm in A-group, 8.5¡¾2.63mm in B-group, 7.4¡¾2.13mm in C-group, and 9.8¡¾2.16mm in the group vaccinated between 9 to 12 months of age, 16.6¡¾5.11mm in the tuberculous meningitis and 17.6¡¾5.32mm in the group of primary tuberculosis.
The mean sizes of induration of positive reaction were much greater among the group of naturally infected cases than B.C.G. vaccinated group as a whole (P value, 0.005>).
